I know the Lafayette Square concert series is called something different these days, but I like the old name and I’m sticking with it. Regardless of what it’s called however, it is one of the best things about living in Buffalo in the summer. Right from its infancy it had the makings of a lasting event. You now know my obsession with all things Ron Hawkins; the Lowest of the Low was a frequent performer in those early days. As the series has grown, it has expanded to pull in bigger names and more diverse bands. This past week was no exception, as the John Butler Trio (visiting all the way from Australia!) put on an absolutely kickin’ show. Not familiar with their music, I listened to a few of their most recent releases on iTunes and then texted my friend Patti with this description: eclectic rock reggae bluegrass band. She hadn’t heard of them either, but told me later she was sold at eclectic. They didn’t disappoint! Patti and I were both impressed with the ease with which they worked a crowd that was largely ignorant of their music, and then profusely thanked the audience and crew at the end of the performance–not something you see every day but should! That connection is something that’s probably underappreciated by many artists and audiences alike. Without the right chemistry between performer and artist, the show has little hope for success, regardless of the quality of the music.
Other great shows this summer include the Violent Femmes, Joan Osborne, and Sam Roberts. If you haven’t been down to the Square, you are missing out!!

I love Thursdays in the square. I went there with a bunch of my friends a few times over the summer and it was fun to see downtown Buffalo. I was able to see new places and meet new people. So many people say Buffalo has nothing to offer, but it really does. There are some boring days when I feel like theres nothing to dom but I am proud to say I’m from Buffalo.

ooo i was so mad i missed Thursday at the Square all summer. I signed up to play house soccer with my friends and of course it had to be every Thursday. I was especially upset when i missed the Dropkick Murphy’s concert last week. I saw them about 2 years ago and at the end of concert they invite all the fans to sing with the band on stage. i saw footage of it on the news and it brought back fun memories of the concert i went to.
I love going to Sabres games, Bisons games, going out to eat, or just visiting the waterfront. To me there aren’t many more things i like better than going downtown.

One of my favorite things to do during summer is to go to Thursdays at The Square. Not only do I go there for the music, but I also go there to see friends and to walk around. I love walking around and seeing all the old arcitecture. From the old churches, to the really beautiful old homes on Delaware ave. Buffalo has a lot of amazing arcitecture.

Thursday in the square is the best! I have been there a few times and i loved it. It is very over-crowded and there are people of all sorts, but thats what makes it so fun. You can actually expierince the city of buffalo, and see what it has to offer.

Thursday in the square is a very popular event that happens every thursday in the summer.Ive been to many thursday in the square events and I havent been disappointed yet. As the years go on, the better the concerts get. They bring bigger acts which expand for more and more people to go and hang out in the square. When thursday comes around you know what your doing for the night and just how much fun its going to be rain or shine!

I am thrilled to see that so many of you have made it downtown. Buffalo has to be one of the most underrated cities in the country. We are so culturally rich and affordable at the same time. Not many places can boast that.

I too love going to Thursdays In The Square. Not only do you get a free concert downtown in Buffalos warm summer nights, but you get to see so many people you know as well. Thursday nights draw all sorts of people down in the square, whenever I go I manage to see at least a dozen people that I know. I have a feeling that thursadays in the square will last for many summers to come!

I went to Thursday at the Square alot this summer. I dpn’t really go for the music, since me and my friends are always really jsut walking around downtown., delaware park. chippewah, spot coffee, starbucks (Vanilla bean with chocolate chips! However i have recently switched to black tea lemomade…). Really though, I’m usually found in the “emo” section haha it’s just fun to hang around down there for some reason it’s really funny. I did want to go see Augustana..but I was unable to go. I did go to warped tour in August. It was way better than any thursday at the square. I haven’t been to warped tour since 2004 when I first went. My Chemical Romance, FOB, Motion City Soundtrack, All American Rejects, plus some. However, back to thursday at the square. i also agree with the user, “CouldThisBeLove” because Buffalo DOES have a TON of interetsing Architecture. it’s what inspires me to want to study that field.
